I’d been looking forward to SW:R since it was announced. I’m a big Star Wars fan and the game was generating some serious buzz. I’d deliberately not read too much about it as I wanted to find out for myself how it worked so when I opened my copy at the games club last night most of the game was new to me. It comes in a big box, very big, and as usually with FFG stuff there’s an amount of spare room in the box and an insert to help take up that room. There’s minis (of course!), cards, two player sheets, card counters, two rulebooks and a large, two-part map.
We’ve got a crazy amount of stuff coming in today including X-Wing restocks, boardgames, collectible minis, YGO Heroclix, and even an Adventure Time card game.
Boardgames include Five Tribes – Here, in a unique twist on the now-standard “worker placement” genre, the game begins with the meeples already in place – and players must cleverly maneuver them over the villages, markets, oases, and sacred places tiles that make up Naqala. How, when, and where you dis-place these Five Tribes of Assassins, Elders, Builders, Merchants, and Viziers determine your victory or failure.
1944 Race to the Rhine is a new game experience. You can’t win this game without proper planning. Your tanks need gas to move and ammo to fight. But don’t forget to feed your GIs. So what would be your transport priority?
In Adventure Time: Card Wars – BMO vs. Lady Rainicorn each turn, a player has two Action Points to spend on Creatures, Spells, and Locations, and cards cost between 0 and 2 Action Points to play. When you summon a Creature, you choose which lane you want to place it in; some Creatures have FLOOP abilities that allow you to use their special abilities. When you attack with a Creature down a lane, you might find an opposing Creature, or you might get to deal your damage straight to your opponent’s Hit Points. Reduce your opponent’s Hit Points from 25 to 0 and you’re the Cool Guy (and you win the game)!
Splendor is a fast-paced and addictive game of chip-collecting and card development. Players are merchants of the Renaissance trying to buy gem mines, means of transportation, shops—all in order to acquire the most prestige points. If you’re wealthy enough, you might even receive a visit from a noble at some point, which of course will further increase your prestige.
Restocks include 7 Wonders, Legion of Honor, Robinson Crusoe, Russian Railroads, Star Trek Attack Wing, and more!
The new Duel Decks Anthology is out tomorrow (Friday 5th Dec). Containing eight separate decks, deck boxes and life counters in a presentation box for £80, it’s a bit of a bargain. We have a couple left after preorders so get in touch now if you want one.

The new civilisation game, Deus, arrives in shop this week. The game has been on top of the BoardGameGeek hotness charts recently and has already sold out at the distributors, even before it went on sale. We’ve got 4 (well 3 cause I’m having one) and they’re £39.99. More info at http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/162082/deus
I’ve posted another one of my What’s In the Box videos covering Deus
New in the shop this week we have Enemy Coast Ahead: The Dambuster Raid from GMT. Not only are you presented with a variety of decisions, you play the invisible hand of fate as your crews endure the hazards of a dangerous night raid. Play the campaign and you get to organize and train the squadron, or play the historical scenarios. It’s suitable for solitaire or team play and costs £43.99.
